14 October - the day of St. Petka, the heavenly patron of the town, is officially proclaimed as a town’s holiday in 1993 with a decision of the Municipal Council.

On this day the Orthodox Church celebrates one of the most honored saints in our country -  St.Petka, who became a symbol of the struggle for preservation of  the Christian culture in our lands during the centuries.

The St. Petka’s day - Petkovden is considered to be the end of the autumn, and thus also the end of  the active agricutural work. Accoding to the traditional folk beliefs this day is also interpreted as a beginning of the winter holidays.

Every year Troyan celebrates this day with a rich artistic program – exhibitions, concerts and sports events.
