Bulgarian plum festival

"Bulgarian Plum Festival - Troyan" is an innovative cultural event of Troyan Municipality, which  keeps one tradition of celebration with more than 20 years history. The festival continues and developes the traditions of the famous „Holiday of the Plum and the Troyan Plum brandy”.

The year before,  "Bulgarian Plum Festial" was officially awarded as one of the best festivals in Europe and was awarded with  the prestigious quality label "European Festival" for 2015/2016, given by the European Commission.

The holiday happens due to the sincere desire of the local community  to promote its unique regional tradition and to popularize the opportunities for cultural tourism and entertainment, offered by the town to as many people as possible.

Its beginning is set up in the National Exhibition of Arts and Crafts in Oreshak in 1993. From 1997 until now  the holiday is held both in Troyan and in the National Exhibition. Since 2011, with the financial support of Operational programme ‘’Regional Development” of EU, it grows up to/is transformed to the present Bulgarian Plum Festival.

The festival is traditionally held in the last week of September. The main focus of the celebration is connected with the cultivation of the plum culture and the producing of Troyan plum brandy and other plum products.

Every year visitors can enjoy a rich program with many concerts, open stage for amateur folk groups, traditional competitions (for the best home-made plum brandy, for dishes and sweets, prepared with plums, for plum jam, etc.), art workshops on ceramics and carving, demonstration of traditional plum brandy distillation and many other surprises.

Do not miss to visit the traditional “Street of crafts”, which becomes more colorful, rich and interesting with every passing year. Last year, more than 90 craftsmen participated in it. Festival guests also have the opportunity to watch live demonstrations of  jewelery making, decorative candle working, decoupage and wood carving and to buy original products of the traditional and artistic crafts.
